On the evening of Friday, May 13, 2016, Mahomes — then the quarterback for the Texas Tech Red Raiders — was honored by the Texas Rangers by inviting him to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The game was held at Globe Life Park in Arlington in Arlington, Texas, and the Rangers were playing the Toronto Blue Jays.



Mahomes is a native of Whitehouse, Texas, and by that time he was known not only for his prowess on the football field but also for his multi-sport athletic background (including baseball). His participation in the first-pitch ceremony reflected both his local ties and burgeoning athletic prowess.
